COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
Pre-School Classes
Students 2-5 years of age will enjoy a 30 minute class in which they will learn basic skills such as balancing, transferring weight, jumping, counting, coordination, creative movement as well as classical ballet and tap technique and terminology along with classroom etiquette.

Recreational Classes
These 45 minute to one hour class will challenge Students ages 6 to 18. At this level the students begin to develop learned technique into workable dance combinations while applying their individual style and attitude.

Private Instruction

Company/Competitive Levels Classes
WPPAC provides intense training for individuals who wish to experience the stage life of a Performing Artist. The company is committed to providing the student with a more realistic look at professional life in the Arts; offering extensive performance opportunities, the chance to be on stage, and to show off to the communities their training, hard work, and talents.
Company students range in age from 4 to 18 years of age. We customize the program for each student and place them into appropriate classes based on ability. We have Mini, Junior, Teen and Senior Company levels. Hours per week vary based on level and individual placement. A junior level student may have 8 hours of technique encompassing Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Acro Conditioning and Acro Tumbling, along with 3.5 hours of choreography classes in Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Acro.
All WPPAC members will be required to attend classes at any of our three locations: Vandergrift, Greensburg, and Fox Chapel and must audition for acceptance into the Company.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
Acro (Acrobatics):
This program is centered on fundamental acrobatic technique. To increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, timing, body awareness, self-discipline, and confidence. We focus on proper hand placement and body alignment. We wwill focus on learning not just the technique, but also what muscles and flexibility are needed to execute that technique. The program is divided into two parts: Conditioning and Skills.
Conditioning: Throughout all exercises the focus is on physical conditioning: strength in all muscle groups, flexibility, control and endurance.
Skills: Basic acrobatic skills are developed at an individual level, with the purpose of complimenting a dance routine.
Ballet:
This style of dance is based on fundamentals and positions of the arms, feet and body designed to enable the dancer to move with the greatest possible agility, control, speed, lightness and grace.
Creative Movement (Pre-School Ballet)
An introduction to dance, this class explores each child''s range of movement and creative potential. In a noncompetitive environment the children will be led through games that help them develop a sense of weight, direction and dynamic. The class is fun, high energy and individualized to meet the classs needs.
Hip Hop
Commonly known as street dancing,” students will have fun learning funky moves to the latest music.
Jazz
This class is based on various technical and inspired Jazz approaches such as Luigi, Hatchett, and Gioradiano to name a few. The foundation for stability of movement will be a strong understanding of body placement and center. An emphasis will be placed on explanation of terminology, warm-up, isolations, barre, center with emphasis on strengthening turns, jumps, flexibility, technical execution, and combinations as well as what is needed to perform on stage.
Lyrical
The appreciation of movement through lyrical and improvisational interpretation blending Ballet and Jazz techniques.
Modern
This class will use basic Cunningham and Limon techniques to develop a sense of geometry and weight. We will work on improvisations as well as developing a basic modern technique which will be integrated into challenging routines. The goal of the class is to push the dancer past their own expectations and lead them to acknowledge their individual strengths.
Musical Theatre
This is a fun filled class to teach students various acting, dancing, and singing techniques.
Pointe
Pointe is an extension of ballet and trains the young dancer to build her strengths when dancing on Pointe shoes and develop her coordination and control along with strengthening work at barre, concentration on proper feet alignment, releves and development of body placement on pointe.
Tap
This class is based on various technical and inspired Tap styles such as Classical, Rhythm, and Hoofing to name a few. The foundation will be a strong understanding of basic tap foundation, terminology, timing and rhythm. An emphasis will be placed on explanation of terminology, execution of basic steps through more challenging rhythms, precise tap sounds, improvisational techniques, syncopation and technical execution.
Tumblebear Acro (Acrobatics)
To increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, timing, body awareness, self-discipline, and confidence. We focus on proper hand placement and body alignment. To learn these skills the students will have fun being animals, use props, be in a circus, etc.
