Our studio is holding a contemporary master class workshop in the style of the Broadway blockbuster, WICKED? Cast members are donating their time to teaching contemporary/musical theater workshops with the proceeds all going to charity.
The national tour of WICKED will be in Pittsburgh from September 6th to October 2nd. Cast members are offering a 1 ½ hr dance class followed by a ½ hr talk back discussing the show, their training and career path, as well as giving advice to aspiring Broadway performers etc…
The cost is $25/student. These donations go directly to BC/EFA which helps men, women and children fighting HIV and AIDS. BC/EFA also sponsors The Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative battle Breast and Ovarian Cancer.

Sandra Lynn's Travels to Ocean City, MD for Starpower's National Dance Competition.
The Sandra Lynn's Competitive Dance Company traveled to Ocean City the week of July 18th for Starpower's National Dance Competition. One of the most well known and competitions in the industry. The Mini, Petite, Junior, Teen and Senior company members performed group, duo/trios, and solo's. We were very proud of all of our dancers and all of their hard work leading up to this fun and exciting event. Here are some highlights from our trip:
All Mini soloist received 1st in their division, and Izzy Knapp received 8th overall high score and Julianna Sgambati received 5th overall for the 8 and under solo division. Out of over 250 entry's in the teen solo division our dancers all did a wonderful job and averaged 4.5 stars and 4.75 stars, Alexis Connors won 18th overall and Jessica Fanelli won 16th overall out of the 250 entry's. Way to go girls! Our Senior Soloist did a wonderful job and we enjoyed watching them dance their last dance as competitive company members before attending College, they also averaged 4.75 stars with their solos and trios. Our Junior company won 5 Stars with their tap and made it to the Battle of the Stars! Our Teen Hotel California Contemporary piece also made it to the Battle of the Stars. We were delighted to be in the top of the two small group divisions, the girls had to re-dance at the Battle on the last day of the competition and both groups did a wonderful job and represented Sandra Lynn's with Class! We were so excited when Hotel California won 3rd overall National Champions!! All in all it was a very successful week and we all really enjoyed our time together! Master Class with Amy Schulke from Just Plain Dancin!
| The company kids had a blast with Amy Schulke, when she had her Master class at the studio! Can we say sweat! Glad everyone had a great workout and learned some new and amazing things! SHOWSTOPPERS NATIONALS
Congratulations to Jessica Fanelli and Auriel Welty who traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to attend the 2009 Showstopper National Dance Competition. The girls were initially invited to attend the competition to participate as performers in the Opening Number for the 2009 Showstopper American Dance Championship Video.
The girls received this honor by being top soloists at the Pittsburgh regional competition: Auriel earned the 1st place overall high score award in the Teen division while Jessica was awarded the 2nd place overall high score in the Junior division. In addition to dancing along side some of the nation's finest dancers under the direction of accomplished choreographer, Haley Mac, the girls experienced having their makeup done by Hollywood makeup artist, Rachel Ross and their costumes selected by costume designer, Angel Roberts. While attending the week long classes and rehearsals, the girls took time out of their hectic schedules to compete their solos in the competition. Jessica placed first in the 11 year old category for her character routine with a gold award, as well as receiving a Dance Excellence Award. Auriel placed fourth in the 13 year old category with her lyrical solo receiving a platinum award. Following the opening number performance, both girls were presented with scholarships to attend a Showstopper Dance Convention this fall. Great job girls! |
